Review of Shakespeare in Love (1998) by Chrissy P — 27 Dec 2009
Delightful movie. It's smart and entertaining. Every time I watch this movie, I seem to find new aspects to appreciate and interesting tidbit I missed during previous viewings. It captured the culture, society, and history of that historical period perfectly. Among, there are other subtle references in the movie that history buffs can also appreciate.
For instance, in the beginning of the movie, when William Shakespeare runs through the streets in pursuit of his muse, he seemed to be dodging from side to side. This is because during that historical period, one of the most common ways to dispose waste is to dump out of the window. By dodging from side to side, one minimizes the chance of being showered with waste and excrement.
