Review of Shadow Dancer (2012) by Haydn W — 08 Jan 2013
This sombre period piece draws much of its narrative power from its setting around the time that old standpoints in the Troubles were beginning to blur - the action takes place not long before the Good Friday agreement and with negotiations holding sway.
Nonetheless, the air of menace is pronounced even if the acknowledgement of ambiguity leads to a somewhat muddled film - probably an accurate reflection of reality but perhaps less effective when it comes to entertainment.
Andres Riseborough, whom many will find it hard to forgive for her to date most famous role playing Margaret Thatcher, is excellent throughout.
