Review of Session 9 (2001) by Joshua R — 03 Nov 2008
Session 9 has you from the opening. it is one of the scariest movies i've ever seen. but it's not for things that jump out or the fear of dying. it's the creepy, ominous, ever present kind of scary that takes a while to embed itself into you and stays with you throughout.
sure the acting isn't that great and it's a little boring as far as horror movies go but it's an independent film shot on a budget (a factor that I think it actually gets more points for).
don't expect quick cuts like in the ring. expect long built up psychopathic characterization like in the shining. expect a scary background story that slowly comes to life. expect what it's like to watch men's minds slowly become destroyed.
expect something that seems so real it's everywhere you look. expect to possibly shit your pants. this is session 9 and it's fantastic.
