Review of Selma (2014) by Celia V — 22 Feb 2015
97% Selma is everything a biopic should be. This film not only touches Martin Luther King, but everyone who may have experienced the drama that was going on during those times. This film is a celebration of all that has come during the 60's and the people who caught for their rights. David Oyelowo is mind glowingly good in this. I personally think that he was MILES ahead of Bradley Cooper in American Sniper, and that he should have been nominated. Tom Wilkinson is also terrific. Even though the Film did not capture the REAL Lyndon B. Johnson, and that HE had the idea of the march, he is still well interoperated. One red flag: The Studio marketed both Oprah and Cuba Gooding Jr a lot, but they were basically in it for 8 and 2 Min respectively. Still, that did not affect the film. Ava DuVernay has created an American Classic, that will be the legacy of Martin Luther King.
Overall: Selma plays out exactly how MLK's Legacy should be, and rises even more. One of my personal favorites.
Rating: 97% and A+.
