Review of Saving Private Pérez (2011) by Keila H — 07 Sep 2011
I am extremely happy to see how cine Mexicano is picking up in the comedy genre. Although it may upset many that the movie portrays a cartel leader as a hero, take in mind that the story is about a man who obeys el llamado de la sangre (the call of the bloodline/family), no matter his past.
If you know or are part of the Mexican culture you will definitely identify with plenty of the parts of the movie. The customs, music, food, and family feuds will be all too familiar. It is a comedy with a touch of Mario Almada action.
I am extremely impressed with Miguel Rodarte, although I wish Adal Ramones did more I can't say I'm disappointed. Although it has subtitles you can't get the COMPLETE essence if 1. your not familiar with Mexican culture and 2.
don't understand Spanish. Overall I recommend it =).
