Review of Salome (1953) by Harri K — 27 Jan 2018
A well intentioned interpretation of the story that suffers from shallow characters and conservative direction that not attempt to break new ground or do anything adventurous. The story is ultimately uninteresting despite attempting to reach epic heights.
The character of Herod has potential but Laughton isn't afforded the opportunity to study the character properly, and seems to surrender to that reality early on in the narrative.
