Review of Rose of Washington Square (1939) by Mloy X — 03 Oct 2013
This was alright but kind of slow and not half as lively as Funny Girl (which was also a movie based on the life of Fannie Brice). Tyrone Power was cute and charming, but Alice Faye looks odd, especially when she sings which is unfortunate because she has a beautiful voice, and I'm at a lost for words with Al Jolson.
It must have been a different time to consider what he did "entertainment". Go figure. Overall, the movie was a little boring and in comparison to "Funny Girl", "Funny Girl" had better acting, choreography and more memorable music; which made it hands down, a lot more entertaining to watch.
