Review of Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired (2008) by Rory P — 13 Jan 2009
Fascinating documentary on the events surrounding the conviction of having sex with a minor which eventually led Polanski to flee the country for good.
I had of course come to understand the basic details of this case over the years, but what I had known wasn't even the tip of the iceberg. This was an absolute circus of a case, presided over by a media hungry judge whose decisions were swayed from one moment to the next by what he read of himself in the papers and on TV.
Features interviews with every living person who was connected to the case, including the victim, and is wonderfully edited using scenes of Polanski's own films to punctuate the events of the case as it unfolds.
Fantastic. My favorite documentary of 2008.
