Review of Rockstar (2011) by Shweta S — 15 Nov 2011
The story of an Indian "Rockstar" - is unreal, exaggerated and unbelievable - as are the stories of all "Rockstars". It is Imtiaz Ali's dialogues which makes this an immensely enjoyable experience. The obvious parallels in the life story of the protagonist and rock greats like Jim Morisson are tried to be put into an Indian setting - and are a little misplaced.
Ranbir Kapoor's performance as Janardhan/Jordan is a treat, Mohit Chauhan's vocals takes this feat a step further. Rahman's beautiful score, songs ranging from qawallis and ballads to classic rock, provide the film with an aura, a space of its own.
The film at heart is a love story, which is what Imtiaz Ali always makes - and this is annoying - has its moments in plenty, and is definitely an entertaining watch!
