Review of Rock Star (2001) by Kevin P — 12 May 2016
It's a shame that "professional critics" lose site of what the movie has to offer. It may not fit the criteria of a textbook movie, but I can say, unequivocally, for anyone who was into metal and hair bands in the late 70's and early 80's will get out of it what was intended.
The movie has a phenomenal soundtrack with music written for the movie by some of the greats of the genre as well as classic music of the time. Anyone entering into the movie with the intention of picking it apart will have ample opportunity, but it wasn't written for them.
Anyone who is a fan of metal, will relate to the story of the small garage band star making it big as front man (or woman) with great music to more than support the story. The soundtrack itself is worth buying.
Very well done and though the movie is touted as the story of Judas Priest, only the Priest knows what went on behind the scenes. Just watch it on it's own merits and enjoy some great rock and roll.
