Review of Rio Grande (1950) by Chad W — 17 Jan 2010
The third of the John Ford/John Wayne cavalry trio (Fort Apache, She Wore A.
Yellow Ribbon). I read online that Ford made this movie so that he could make The Quiet Man. This was also the first movie in which. the Duke and Maureen O'Hara starred together.
This was a movie about family, particularly farthers and sons. It explores issues like honor, responsibility, and heroism.
The cinematography is beautiful. The backdrop is beautiful, but it takes a back seat to the close-ups of Maureen O'Hara. She and Wayne had a chemistry that is undeniable.
