Review of Rich Hill (2014) by Nick U — 23 Jan 2015
1/23/15 PBS Independent Lens.
Rich Hill, what an apt oxymoron. The filmmakers do a wonderful job of making the viewer feel the despair, poor education, cycle of poverty from parent to child, the poor nutrition, bad health habits such as smoking and the effects of mental illness which is part of poverty in America. It shows the lack of parenting skills and job prospects or ambition. A sad tale of people with little hope or future but interestingly there seems to be genuine love between parents and kids and siblings, the lone bright spot. This is why I am a big documentary fan.
