Review of Reversal of Fortune (2003) by Sam B — 28 Mar 2010
Jeremy Irons is one of my favorite actors, but I think I believe his own sentiment that he received the Oscar for this role largely due to the fact that he was snubbed for Dead Ringers. Don't get me wrong, his talent and charisma lent as much depth to the part as possible, but the character isn't anything special, and neither is this movie.
If you're really into court dramas, you'll enjoy watching the murder case unfold with plenty of twists and turns. I think the main problem is that I never cared about the outcome one way or the other, so while I can appreciate the technical aspects, I wasn't emotionally engaged in the least, not even with the help of the dramatic "flashbacks".
Maybe if more time were spent on those the story wouldn't feel so dry.
