Review of Redbelt (2008) by Stian B — 17 Jul 2009
I couldn't find one flaw in this movie.
It's raw, it's real, it's beautiful, it's....one of the best martial arts movies ever!!
And I know a lot of people are going to disagree, since the movie isn't packed with incredible fight scenes from start to end.
And that's fine.
See, to me it's not about the physical fights that define the greatness of a martial arts movie. It's the individuals fight against life. And the struggle against their own morality. The honoring of the code and so on and so on. And to capture that in a film, beautiful!
Hats off to David Mamet.
By the way, Chiwetel Ejiofor is now one of my favorite actors. Breath-taking job.
