Review of Red State (2011) by Bret G — 03 May 2012
Some say it is too preachy. For others, it is too realistic. I wonder if these aren't mutually exclusive. But these concerns do not matter. Here's what does:
The cinematography is brilliant. The cast is excellent, through and through, and so are its performances. Breathtaking action in the same vein as Smith's friend burgeoning auteur Ben Affleck's recent triumph 'The Town' abound. This movie offers twist after twist, tweaking horror conventions and defying storytelling clichà (C)s. Tense, original, and genuinely shocking, 'Red State' may well be Kevin Smith's greatest achievement. See it.
