Review of Red Rock West (1993) by K J E — 05 Dec 2007

Red Rock West is a smart and quirky blend of dark comedy and film noir. Itâ??s hard to believe that it was almost never released on the big screen. Nicholas Cage, Dennis Hopper and Lara Flynn Boyle are all perfectly cast.

The film begins simply and gets progressively more complex as it moves along. Despite the complexity of the plot it never becomes confusing and each new plot twist is welcome. Each twist adds to overall charm of the plot and never derails the film from its original direction (although often each plot twist involves a change in direction to or from Red Rock).

This film is a real gem and often overlooked but definitely worth owning and watching over and over again.
