Review of Ran (1985) by James F — 14 Mar 2008
I own 3 versions of the movie on DVD, and can never get enough. From the incredible imagery to the haunting strains of Toru Takemitsu's score, The sheer love and dedication of Kurosawa is there for us to see.
The cast respond in kind, bringing his characters to life. Nakadai really pulls off the role of Ichimonji, but the true standout has to be Mieko Harada in the role of Lady Kaede. It may have taken almost all of his of his life, but this female character is one of the strongest I've seen.
Others worth mentioning are Peter, in the role of Kyoami the Jester, and my favorite, Masayuki Yui as Tango, the loyal Retainer. Do not miss this Masterpiece.
