Review of Raging Sun, Raging Sky (2009) by Ceph J — 25 Mar 2011
Julian Hernandez is a very interesting Mexican director. His movies are usually with little dialogue, depicts men in love but dealing with pain, and he focuses on images and style instead of plot. "Raging Sun, Raging Sky" elicts beauty, frustration, a snail's pace but memorable images. It's definitely a work of genuine artist but at over 3 hours, it's too self-indulgent. As a movie lover and admirer of erotic art, I did enjoy it. However, I can't recommend it because it's a required taste.
What plot there is centers on two men Ryo (Guillermo Villegas) and Kieri (Jorge Becerra) in love but stalked by a rough trade, Tari (Javier Olivan). There's an woman mythological figure who seems to be protecting the lovers.
