Review of Raavanan (2010) by Santosh N — 19 Jun 2010
Like trying to understand Shakespeare's poetic language, you need to really think hard in order to follow this movie. Don't expect to sit back, relax and be fed more of the usual stuff that you get to see in other movies.
In some places the relevance of a scene will strike you only a few minutes after it's flashed by. You will struggle to draw parallels with movies you have seen in the past - hoping to find something familiar that puts you in the comfort zone of watching a normal Bollywood movie.
But you won't find any of that here. Mani Ratnam's Ramayana inspired movie is out of the ordinary, filled with awesome cinematography by Santosh Sivan and A R Rahman's superb background score.
