Review of Promised Land (2012) by Sean H — 06 Jan 2013
I think Matt Damon and company do a really good job of taking on this very complicated, current issue of our time, without being preachy. Fracking is in fact tearing small communities apart and I loved Damon's own internal conflict mirroring that larger picture.
Money versus protecting what is sacred - water, air, health, the quiet beauty inherent in farmlands - it's hard to decide what is best to embrace in the face of caring for one's family and community.
The film leaves it ambiguous enough to reflect what is currently going on in communities across the Marcellus Shale and beyond. I say, overall, well done and well worth seeing.
