Review of Postcards from the Edge (1990) by Gordon C — 09 Aug 2009
Avoided seeing until now because I was sure it wasn't my kind of movie, but I was interested enough in Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, and the actresses in this were perfect. Every scene resonated reality, with power struggles, and building emotions from smoldering to explosion, to realization, to understanding self and others, that it makes you feel great they eventually bonded.
Outstanding support acting, especially from the much maligned Dennis Quaid, as the bed hopping ass. The scene where Streep confronts him after learning his nefariousness was a classic. Also, I must say Streep's closing song was so wonderful, it made me wonder why she couldn't come close to that performance in her subsequent forays into song.
