Review of Please Vote for Me (2007) by Jen T — 03 Jan 2009
This is the best documentary I've seen to date - not in terms of importance or influence of the subject, but in terms of its honesty and spontaneity. It's a short docu about a trio of third-graders who are campaigning to become Class Monitor.
For their age, they definitely displayed a whole lot of the fundamentals of politics, democracy and campaigning. I was chuckling most of the time, just because the 3 candidates were very endearing - especially Cheng Cheng who was very ambitious and was really out to get the position.
But at the same time, I nodded once in a while whenever I realized how the dynamics in that little 3rd grade classroom actually plays out in politics in the outside world. The debate was hilarious - very mundane and childlike, yes, but listen and observe more closely and you'll see that this is Debating 101.
You can get a lot of tips right there. I have only good things to say about this film. DEFINITELY A MUST-SEE. :D FIVE STARS!
