Review of Platform (2001) by John A — 09 Mar 2010
Ask just about any critic about the best filmmaker this past decade and you will likely hear the name Jia Zhangke. Considered to be the 6th generation of Chinese filmmakers, Zhangke has crafted a cinematic language all his own.
Platform plays out over a time of change in China - beginning with a very pro-communist environment to a more pop culture land that cheaply imitates the US. Make sure to catch the uncut 3+ hour version if possible!
