Review of Phenomena (1985) by Wade L — 18 Mar 2008
This film is just too damn funny to not be considered brilliant. Donald Pleasance with a Scottish accent, playing with a monkey! Slow moving sequences of Connelly sleepwalking, with a fast and furious heavy metal soundtrack (motorhead, iron maiden and the fantastic goblin, to name but a few).
And then it all get's topped off with the single greatest ending to any movie you will ever see in your life. This is not exagerrated. It IS the greatest thing you are ever going to see. Totally shocking and hilarious.
This really is a great movie for the most part, lots of classic Argento style & especially impressive that he manages to retain the dark, malevolent giallo style in a film mostly shot on location in what are supposed to be the (Swiss?) countryside.
No mean feat, confirmed by the fact that almost all giallos are always shot on set or in city locations. However, the unintentionally funny aspects of this movie will always win me over. Fantastic stuff.
