Review of Phase IV (1974) by Abel D — 28 May 2014
Less B Movie and more legitimate science fiction, Saul Bass' directorial debut is smarter and more inventive than its premise would suggest. The single biggest achievement here is the amazing photography of the ants, and how Bass is able to make them feel both like actual threats, as well as legitimate, intelligent beings.
A short, slick runtime and two solids leads in Murphy and Davenport go well too.
