Review of Phantoms (1998) by Matthew P — 09 Apr 2013
One of my guilty pleasures. The idea of an ego driven organism with this sort of power, scale, creativity, & ignorance of where it comes from & why it exists is intriguing. The execution of its seemingly limitless creativity is the biggest problem I have with films like this & that I think is inherent of any creature film with a mismanaged or small budget (basically needs to do what The Mist did).
It does touch briefly on what this thing would do to psychological torture the cast of this film; if they would've taken that aspect further it might have created a more interesting thriller. Still, I give it 4 stars because of what it almost accomplished.
