Review of Painted Woman (2017) by Jenna N — 22 Sep 2018
I'm surprised that the only published review panned this movie. I thought it was beautiful. I think most Hollywood productions these days are over the top, so it was nice to see something approachable, yet with plenty of action and plot to move the pace along.
The only thing that kind of annoyed me is I think that they had an overly utopian view of race relations in the Old West. I have a hard time picturing white settlers kicking up their heels with African-Americans and Native Americans at a wedding.
That just does not jive with what I understand of the era. Otherwise, I think that the movie did a great job of portraying brutality towards women, and sex trafficking. So it was much more feminist than "Godless.
".
