Review of Outside Bet (2012) by Ana B — 13 Oct 2012
British comedy set in the 80's against the backdrop of Thatcher's privatizations and social unrest. A group of seven friends very affected by the economical situation decide to risk their savings buying a racing horse that was in "special offer", the Mumper; the movie goes on telling us their adventures with the horse but also their personal and professional lives in a moment where Britain was extremely agitated.
There are some funny and poignant moments but there isn't anything truly special here. It is easy to follow but it feels like the horse it is a mere excuse to show us their financial crisis, as there is really very little racing. Not a bad effort but it needs more sparkle.
