Review of Out of the Dark (1995) by Juan C — 12 Feb 2011
A Stephen Chow farce of all things supernatural as he wanders around a haunted apartment complex. It is always hard to balance both the scary nature of horror and the visual gags of slapstick comedy. This is perhaps his most divergent film in concept and that is perhaps the only interesting aspect of the film.
Unfortunately the creativity is not present and the humour lacks required timing. It is not helped with a script that is extremely piece meal and struggles to build to anything remotely climatic.
The false teeth gag is probably the high point, and at best that left smiles rather that pure amusement. A certain misfire, and not really an inspired one.
