Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Kat M — 04 Jul 2014
Only Lovers Left Alive is by far the best film I have seen in years.
The sad beauty, cold humor, and languid reminder of humanity is a refreshing take on the vampire genre, reminding us that eternity is not always happy. Eve is an intellectually astute but entirely Zen vampire, while Adam is tired of existing in a world more concerned with fame and greed while he values wisdom and innovation. Ava of course has yet to reach maturity during her time as a vampire and brings about a change of course for the central lovers. The film moves at a slow pace, but does so to reflect on the passion and anguish experienced by the characters. The soundtrack is hauntingly perfect as is the locations in the film. Everything about this is perfect.
