Review of Oblivion (2013) by Travis P — 11 Jan 2015
I have to say I am confused by the poor reviews that this movie has gotten. The imagery of the future scape is striking. The plot line is both intriguing and sensible. There is plenty of suspense. It is not one of those wall to wall action movies that become boring by the fourth fiery explosion in as many minutes.
I found the theme original enough. Maybe it is similar to another movie from 40 years ago. if it is, I have not seen it.
The only thing I found kind of dumb was the main character's fixation on sports that have not been played for 60 years. ... Really?? I forgive it; he was fixated on all of his half-memories when he was supposed to have no memories at all, and sports did not play a central role in anything.
Roger Ebert was particularly harsh in his review. I say he is a Curmudgeon. For the world the plot created for us, the characters are well developed and convincing. Morgan Freeman could use more screen time, but it's already 2+ hours.
