Review of Nocturnal Animals (2016) by John G — 19 Feb 2017
Absolutely one of the best movies I've ever seen and I did not go into it with those expectations, in fact was a bit disappointed with Amy Adams and Arrival, so this was a total surprise to me. This movie is riveting and draining, but yet not too clever or convoluted.
To me, this movie is about love, lost love and deep regret. It was about the siren call of conventional wisdom and trading in a real shot at love in place of comfort, security and approval. Very surprised to detect even a subtle, but potent indictment of a cold, calculating professional sensibility and it's portrayal as dehumanizing and ultimately empty.
Wow! Especially knowing director Tom Ford's background in the fashion world.
