Review of Nil by Mouth (1997) by Simon P — 29 Jul 2007
My favourite film. Brilliantly written & directed by Gary Oldman, this is a harsh, brutal and humorous tale of alcohol and drug abuse, petty crime and domestic violence within a South East London family.
Every performance is excellent especially Winstone and Burke. The ending has been criticised for being too upbeat but with the pattern of what this film depicts it is, surely, the most disturbing climax.
Explosive and very powerful!
