Review of Nebraska (2013) by Deanomite — 01 Jan 2020
I love this movie. Everyone is bloodsucking leeches (Bruce Dern included-he feeds off his kids, his wife feeds off him. It is worth noting that in 2019 Bruce Dern is 83 and was in 9 movies), trying to feed off the frailty of someone at the end of senility, it's a real examination of the American Community.
Phedon Papamichael (Identity, The Weatherman) did a perfect job with the black and white photography. At first it seemed bleak, but after a bit I couldn't imagine this movie working in color. The music is mostly a very stripped down version of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak.
The best line: "Why did you have kids?" "I like to screw." All the performances are perfect, the kids are much nicer than they would be in real life given the dad they have, but that's movie magic.
