Review of Nazarín (1959) by Alex F — 31 Mar 2008
I expected another sarcastic view of the Catholic church but in fact it was a story subtlety parallel to the gospel in the second half of the movie. There was the occasional religious mockery and sinful attitudes like two women (one of them a very ugly prostitute)falling in love with Nazarin who happens to act like Jesus in this movie. Like in Los Olvidados it was raw and coarse in some scenes with a part of society in which the characters happen to be prostitutes, thiefs and the poor.
An intelligent and thought provoking movie.
