Review of Nashville (1975) by Walter H — 11 Jun 2007
There are two movies that cemented my desire to go into film. This is one of them. Every character, every storyline, rings true--from Tom's womanizing to Barbara Jean's fragile state of mind to Haven Hamilton just kicking so much ass.
Don't even get me started on the songs. Each one gets in your head and doesn't leave, but in a good way (especially "Dues", "It Don't Worry Me", and "One, I Love You").
For me, it's all about Henry Gibson. Why he has never won an Oscar is beyond me. Was there ever a more desperate moment in movie history than his feeble appeal for someone to sing at the end? The perfect depiction of America from the late twentieth century to the present.
