Review of Naked States (2000) by Ethan B — 26 Sep 2008
This film is a fun, jaw-dropping ride. The guy that takes these pictures can really rally up hundreds of crazy people willing to pose nude ANYWHERE. There's a lot of whining, misunderstanding and stress along the way, but in the end it's the art that prevails, this guy really knows how to make extremely interesting work. You get sucked in right from the first scene, which shows him running around times square, getting all these people to lay down naked, and then getting arrested for it. Then the rest of the film proceeds at a good pace, and it gives a solid feel of satisfaction in the end. Becuase he actually manages to get a public nude photo in each one of the 50 states and then shows them off at a gallery and obviously makes tons of money from the sacrifice.
The best part is probably when he goes to Burning Man to ask all the weirdos to pose naked for him, and to put down their masks and stuff.
Damn you Spencer Tunick, you're one ballsy and determined motherf*cker.
