Review of Mutual Appreciation (2005) by Jarrad R — 15 Jul 2007
A very honest and realistic portrayal of people and social anxiety (it may have been a little too realistic because I definitely fell in love with Alan and had to constantly remind myself that he is just a fictional character). The movie is insightful and awkward in the best possible way.
That said, the movie piqued my interest after hearing about and rereading Chuck Klosterman's review in Esquire.
The film doesn't really have much of a story per se, but is more of a voyeuristic view into the lives of three twenty-somethings struggling to find themselves in the real world.
This movie definitely has me invested in Bujalski's career.
And yes, the music rocked.
