Review of Mughal-e-Azam (1960) by Gina M — 25 Feb 2008
"Pyar Kiya Tho Darna Kya..." OMG! This movie was absolutely beautiful. The best bollywood movie ever, and I am a severe critic. This is really a timeless classic. The music alone tells the tragic love story of Prince Akbar (Dilip Kumar) and Anarkli (Madhubala), a commoner and a courtesan.
And the costumes...don't get me started. The story is solid gold and really is quite epic for the year it was made. But the music...I just keep coming back to the music...It is mesmorizing, beautiful, exotic, and heart wrenching all at once! My goodness! I could go on and on and on, but you GOT to see this one.
Definitely worth reading the subtitles (for those of you who don't like to do that or who don't speak fluent Hindi) Highlight: The song" Pyar Kiya Tho Darna Kiya".
