Review of Mrs. Harris (2006) by Samantha S — 27 Dec 2009
Glossy and satiric telling of the Jean Harris-Herbert Tarnower affair, and his subsequent murder(?) at her hands. Bening's Jean starts out as a beguiling divorcee entranced by the charismatic Scarsdale diet doctor (played brilliantly by Ben Kingsley).
Eventually, his eye wanders to younger women, and her grip on reality wanders as well. Film's climax shows different perspectives of what might have happened that night at his home when he is fatally wounded - even now, it's hard to tell the facts from the emotional fiction.
Cloris Leachman has a juicy turn as the doctor's skeptical sister.
