Review of Mr. Nice (2010) by Ethan T — 04 Dec 2010
Rhys Ifans is the spitting image of notorious drug smuggler Howard Marks and delivers his usual likeable performance, but the film could have done with a less loyal retelling of Marks' autobiographical tale, perhaps addressing some of the moral questions at the heart of his admittedly noteworthy criminal career.
The film isn't as amusing as I'd hoped, although the scene in which Marks & his wife enjoy a 'special moment' while shouting along 'Just Say No!' with an anti-drugs campaigning Nancy Reagan on the telly raised a snicker.
Chloe Sevigny is as beautiful as ever as Marks' wife but it has to be said that her character is virtually anonymous and her English accent is fairly ropey.
