Review of Moonlight (2016) by Joshua L — 27 Feb 2017
'Moonlight' manages to tell the story of a Chiron, a boy growing up queer, and black, in a single-parent household, in a city reeling from neglect - without once falling into cliche.
This film is not an easy viewing experience, but it manages to be redemptive in spite of the painful events that unfold. And it profoundly adds to our conversations about identity and community, with a deft touch.
I hope that the Best Picture fiasco at the Oscars means that more people would watch this grossly underappreciated film.
