Review of Miss Potter (2006) by Cary C — 28 Sep 2008
This movie is exactly what it is meant to be - a charming biopic of Beatrix Potter, complete with animations that now and then bring her characters alive. Some will find this cutesy, but any creative person will understand the reality of how one relates to one's own creations and the power of the imagination to develop relationships all its own.
Casting is excellent all round, especially the superb Emily Watson and amusing Barbara Flynn. Zellweger's casting in yet another English role was controversial, but let's face it, she does it well, albeit perhaps with a touch too much prim affectation.
It is all part of the charm of the piece though, since this injects a sense of life into what could have been dull. Quite enchanting.
