Review of Mimic (1997) by D. B. R — 26 Jan 2008
A superior breed of monster movie, expanding on the tried-and-true giant insect invasion template. The Judas bugs are at their most effective in eliciting a creepy-crawly reaction when they're half-hidden in the shadows for the first third of the movie and you can't tell exactly what they are.
While the actors' performances are evenly wooden, at least the characters are sufficiently diverse, especially the autistic Chuy. Plus, in a detour from the established S.O.P. of cinema, the other two precocious kids meet an early and gory demise!
