Review of Midnight Sun (2006) by Marco C — 29 Sep 2007
I watched the film only because YUI was the lead actress and I wanted to see if she really could act. Perhaps her being an amateur actress (you can't ignore that little fact) helped give the movie credence: YUI didn't overplay or downplay her role as Amane Kaoru. She simply is Kaoru, that's all.
While Taiyou no Uta isn't a musical by any means, music does play a very important part in the film. The theme song for the film, Good-bye days (written and performed by YUI herself), ties in wonderfully with the character of Kaoru and the movie as a whole.
I can understand where the comparisons to Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu come in, but to be honest, I enjoyed Taiyou no Uta a lot more than I did Sekachuu. This is definitely a movie worth looking into.
