Review of Mickey One (1965) by Aidan H — 21 May 2012
While M1 holds some memorable images, its incessantly pretentious faux-European malarkey wears thin around the third time the mute clown shows up. Beatty looks out of place (especially during the so-called comedy cabaret) and can't save the movie from disappearing up its own arse.
One of my favourites from my teenage years but its hipster charm has weathered badly. For connoisseurs of poseur cinema only. Stars for Ghislain Cloquet's stark cinematography.
