Review of Michael Clayton (2007) by Trystan C — 23 Jul 2012
If "No Country For Old Men" was the popular, football player and "There Will Be Blood" was the class clown, then "Michael Clayton" was the smart kid who kept quiet, sitting in the back of the class.
I am happy I caught this in theatres, because it is a bueracratic thriller that manages to be intelligent without being confusing, poetic without being pretentious, and visually-enticing without being flashy. The performances are top notch, with George Clooney showing us why he got a nomination with a performance layered with sadness and at the same time tenacity. Tom Wilkinson is fantastic too as the theatricly deranged catalyst for the entire story. Movies about the evil things men in white collars have been done before, but never so effectively.
