Review of Metamorphosis (2007) by Todd N — 22 Jun 2013

Despite some really bad qualities, there is something redeeming about this film.

First off, this films is corny. It has a little bit of modern Hammer style to it including old world sets ups and gothic vampire cliche villains, and a lot of 80s teenage horror cliches including obnoxious teenagers, cheesy lines, and mediocre acting. On the other hand, the gothic vampire cliche villains had an enjoyable charm. And the twist, while perhaps not a Crying Game or Sixth Sense moment does add some charm to the movie. And of course you have (spoiler free) the foreboding ending which adds to the charm. Like a Hammer Flik, this movie has a guilty pleasure fun with the Vampire genre and while there were moments I wasn't sure if I wanted to turn it off, I ended up digging it.
