I did not read the short story, but I appreciated this movie for what it did. It took a fresh take on local lore and relied more on suspense (and probably a good bit of my own paranoia). There were not a lot of jump scares, none that I recall actually.

But still I was more worried for these characters then I care to admit. There were also a lot of really cute scenes. So if you're an adult in the body, stomach the gore, but have a soft spot for cute, almost childish things, then this is a good movie.

Though I do have to warn that there are some adult elements about abuse in both familial and in elderly care that may be upsetting to those sensitive to the subject.
