Review of M*A*S*H (1970) by Codie E — 31 Mar 2008
Absolutely brilliant. Altman has managed to control a film that feels, perfectly matched to the characters spontaneous and rebelious attitude. This is true character comedy that has surely influenced everything from The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters to Groundhog Day and The Darjeeling Limited.
The performances and script are brilliant, but for me it is the sound design that ultimately steels the show; from the overlapping dialogue (not really done before) to the radio announcements it is a masterpiece.
